Quake Champions may remove microtransactions and unlock all content
SyncError has published a new Quake Champions 1.31 PTS changelog in the official Quake Discord, outlining a major change to the game's monetization and progression systems.
The September 7 changelog describes the first step towards removing paid Battle Passes and microtransactions, with champions and vanity content becoming available to everyone.
Almost all vanity content is also listed as unlocked for all users. Promotional items such as AMD Ruby Nyx, the Twitch Rocket Launcher and Nvidia Pulsar Railgun would remain exclusive to existing owners, while merit-based rewards such as QuakeCon Belts and Golden Crowns would keep their special status.
The document is still marked DEVELOPMENT IN PROGRESS – NOT FINAL, and SyncError noted that the team wants to test the changes before deciding when and how they will roll out. At the time of writing, the new 1.31 build is not yet publicly available through the Quake Champions PTS client on Steam.
The changelog also includes a new leveling system up to Level 999, kick votes, bot improvements, network and input changes, an Adaptive FPS Stabilizer and numerous fixes. Three new QuakeCon-themed weapon skins are also listed: QCON 2026 Starting Machinegun, Starting Shotgun and Starting Nailgun – the only three weapons that had remained without a QuakeCon skin after the annual series was interrupted in 2025.
SyncError recently returned to work on Quake Champions for four weeks to finish the 1.31 update.
