A demo version of a Quake III Arena RTX “remaster” has been released by PPBWoodBoy. The project is presented as a visual upgrade built around RTX Remix and Quake3e, using an OpenGL wrapper setup to hook Remix into the game. The author describes it as a graphics-focused mod: modern PBR-style textures, updated materials for ray tracing, and custom lighting — with gameplay left unchanged. The current demo is aimed at singleplayer use.
As of the v1.0.0 demo release, the remastered content includes three maps (q3dm1, q3dm6, q3dm10), along with updated player and weapon textures. The release notes also mention that only textures are remastered so far (no model work yet), and that some elements like the UI/HUD are not yet updated.
Requirements / setup:
You’ll need an RT-capable GPU.
The install flow is “clean Quake III folder + Quake3e + RTX Remix runtime files”, plus the mod pack placed into baseq3.
The project lists RTX Remix 1.2.4 as the targeted version for this demo.
