Quake IV Turns 20
Quake IV was released on October 18, 2005 — which means the game has now turned 20 years old.
Developed by Raven Software with support from id Software and published by Activision, Quake IV continued the story of Quake II, running on the id Tech 4 engine (also used for Doom 3).
The game featured a single-player campaign focused on the Strogg conflict, while its multiplayer mode took inspiration from Quake III Arena. Although it never reached the same competitive popularity, Quake IV was played at major tournaments such as ESWC 2006 and WCG 2006.
